As National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day approaches on October 26, it’s critical to emphasize the ongoing importance of safe and responsible medication disposal. Since the inception of Inmar’s Consumer Drug Take-Back Program in 2017, more than 3 million pounds of unused or expired medications have been safely collected and disposed of. This metric underscores the significant role Inmar plays in supporting public health and safety.
While much attention is placed on fentanyl and opioids, the threat posed by the misuse and improper disposal of leftover prescription medications at home is equally pressing. According to data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, nearly 45% of people who misuse prescription pain relievers obtain them from friends or family members, exposing the critical risk of unsecured medications.
Inmar is proud to manage more than 6,400 collection kiosks across the U.S., providing consumers with convenient and compliant disposal options. By promoting awareness and encouraging the disposal of leftover medications, we can collectively reduce the risk of misuse and protect our communities.
This National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, we urge businesses and pharmacies to continue their support in helping individuals responsibly dispose of unneeded medications, advancing a safer and healthier environment for all.
